Spotlight On: Jennifer Lopez in Emilio Pucci

By RicaRichelle · November 19, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

The stunning Ms.Lopez dazzled on the red carpet at the BAFTA Brits to watch in Emilio Pucci earlier this year. The designer's beaded, cut-out jersey compliments her athletic shape and I love it!

How To Dress Like A Lady

<span xml:lang="EN-GB" class="TextRun SCX265890654" style="font-family: Calibri,Sans-Serif; font-size: 12pt;"><span xml:lang="EN-GB" class="TextRun SCX95114306" style="font-family: Calibri,Sans-Serif; font-size: 12pt;"><span xml:lang="EN-GB" class="TextRun SCX179632707" style="font-style: italic; font-family: Calibri,Sans-Serif; font-size: 12pt;">

One of the biggest trends this autumn is the elegant feminism and I’m going to show you how to wear this trend for less! Unless you’re a celebrity with your own personal stylist on speed dial or a VOGUE fashion editor you probably find it difficult to tailor the new trends to you or even to just buy the right pieces needed to put the look together...that’s where I come in! Shopping lists & notebooks at the ready, we’re going from girly chic to classy lady.

The Key Pieces:

</span> </span></span>

Every lady needs 3 types of dresses; the shift, wrap and shirt dress. These dresses are flattering to your shape and look perfect for day to night looks if accessorised correctly! Autumnal shades like oranges, reds and mustard yellows are perfect for work & college too! Whilst your shift dress is more work/occasion wear, you can sport your chic shirtdress at college with simple accessories and comfortable ballet flats! A wrap dress is perfect for those casual days out where you don't want to seem to dressy. Here's some of my favourite fashionistas sporting their dresses...

Another key piece in dressing like a lady that’s hot on the runways right now is the pussy bow blouse. I love these blouses because they’re perfect for a casual day out or that important date! Sheer blouses are more casual and can be worn out shopping or on a date whilst silky blouses are more chic and classy- your goal to dress like a lady. Try tucking your blouse into a tailored pencil skirt for a retro spin on your look!

Accessorising is kept minimal with this trend, elegant watches, simple necklaces & a belt if needed is all it takes to pull this trend off  perfectly so if you're a girl who doesn't like the thought of dripping in diamonds this could be a trend you'll love! Pointy toed shoes and a chunky top bar bag like the one below from Oasis, £40- perfect for all your essentials and more, is all you need to top off your look and voila! ladette to lady!
All ladies have a signature fragrance that signals their presence, what’s yours? Right now I’m loving Rihanna’s Fleur Rebelle perfume £18 Superdrug and Vera Wang Lovestruck, £35 but the most important thing about fashion, to me, is personalising it so go out and shop for a fragrance that you love or even create your own if you dare! If you’d rather be advised on one, CHANEL No. 5, the biggest selling perfume of all time which was worn by glamorous ladies like Marilyn Monroe is the icing on the cake for an elegant look like this!
Shop The Trend:
selection of dresses from Top Shop
Selection of shift, shirt & wrap dresses from Top Shop ranging from £16 - £50
Oasis Ostrich Bag £40
Orange Ostrich Top Bar Lady Bag, Oasis £40
 Chanel No.5 Eau De Parfum
Go hollywood glamorous with Chanel No.5 by splashing out on this classic fragrance for every lady!
Kurt Geiger Carvela Evening Courts
Splash out on these Kurt Geiger Carvela Evening Courts (Absinth) for £110

Designer shows with this trend:
YSL Autumn/Winter Show 2011
YSL sported clean, dark silhouettes on their Fall/Winter 2011 runway and show us exactly how to dress like a lady!
DKNY autumn/winter shows 2011
DKNY definitely gets my vote for one of the best shows at NY Fashion Week with a simple monochrome palette splashed with bright colours! As usual, Karan keeps tailoring sharp and compliments it all by layering up and mixing textures to bring us a taste of ladies in NY during the fall/winter seasons!
Tips to pull off this trend:
  • Keep it girly...no masculine suits or head-to-toe black outfits!
  • Envelope Clutch bags & Mary Jane pumps are you best accessories to nail this look
  • Mini Shift dresses will always look feminine with coloured tights & courts
  • Natural make-up is the way to go for the day time (try hints of gold and earthy hues). For a night time look, add a hint of black to your golden eyes for a modern smokey eye or nude eyes & seductive red lips!

5 things to do on a rainy day

By RicaRichelle · August 4, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Summer plans soaked? No worries, here's a cool list of things for you and your friends to do indoors whilst the weather makes up her mind!

Have a spa day

It's no use having all those pretty little lotions & potions sitting in your bathroom as decorations when you could be pampering yourself like a star! Call over your girlfriends, light some candles & treat each other to massages, mini make-overs & the perfect home-made mani/pedis. Stores like Superdrug, Boots & AVON are sure to stack everything you need for your spa day! Don't forget to bring your robe & fluffy slippers!

google images

Catch up on your favourite shows or have a movie marathon

Missed the last season of Gossip Girl? Want to refresh your memory with a Harry Potter marathon before the last movie premieres? All you need for this is your DVD collection, a thick warm blanket and a bag full of munchies (healthy ones too)! Curl up on your sofa and watch the weather brighten up whilst you catch up on some tv time. For a tasty extra, try home-made popcorn and substitute the sugar for cinnamon to keep it healthy!

Put on your own fashion show!

In times of boredom where your plans have been cancelled, fashion never fails! All dressed up for your summer day out? Don't let it rain on your parade...get a playlist of your favourite artists going & clear some space in your living room to make way for your invisible runway then get your friends over (in their ensembles) and lay out accessories etc then hit the lights and strut your stuff. Get a friend to play the photographer and save the snaps as a summer memory!

Rearrange your closet

It's been on your to-do list since the year started so why not do it now when you have a whole day to spare! Sort your clothes into 3 piles; charity, keep & alter. Start from the bottom and work your way up and before you know it you'll have a fresh closet full of clothes you love or re-united with whilst cleaning. Clean-up tip: Hang your clothes up with the hangers facing inwards & once you wear them hang them up with the hangers facing outwards...that way you know what you're wearing often and what you're not!

Try out those beauty tips you've seen in the magazines!

Spare time, especially unexpected spare time, always calls for trying something new or brushing up on old skills so why not learn to do your own make-up, or if you already do...try some new techniques! If you don't like scanning through fashion magazines to find new beauty tips then Youtube has thousands of how-to videos on hair & beauty just for you and they are all fairly easy to follow. You'll need a neat make-up kit & patience to perfect your new skills!

I hope this helps you fashionistas & if all else fails....go dancing in the rain! :)

Trend Alert: Collared blouses & Button-up shirts

By RicaRichelle · July 25, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Can't get enough of this flirtatious feminine trend? Here's some of my favourite styles and where to buy them...don't worry if you don't know how to work the trend, check out the tips below!

Top tips to pull off this trend:

  • Loose tailoring with thin plaited belts like the blue chiffon top from American Apparel will upgrade your outfit from casual to chic in seconds
  • For a summery transition into autumn, pair any of these button-ups with high waisted shorts (denim shorts look more laid back)
  • Embrace your british flair & layer up your shirt with a nude bra, bodycon dress or plain vest and finish off with a neat knot in your blouse!
  • Accessorise by layering up bangles or locking your favourite charm bracelets & long chains paired with vintage earrings.
  • Stick to neutral colours with sheer tops if you're going to pair them with brighter pieces...too much colour can be over-powering!

Where to buy (tops from top L-R and bottom L-R):

Blue chiffon button-up (American Apparel), Daisy Lace blouse (NewLook), Wide blouse in a silk blend (H&M), tailored denim blouse (H&M), Sleeveless crop button-up (American Apparel), Gathered sleeveless blouse (NewLook).

Happy Shopping!
